Why is axial length an important measurement?

2021-07-23T14:35:01+01:00May 11th, 2021|News|

The Axial Length (AL) is the distance from the corneal surface to an interference peak corresponding to the retinal pigment epithelium/Bruch’s membrane. The mean adult values for axial length are 22-25 mm and mean refractive power -25.0 -+1.0 D. The mean depth of the anterior chamber in an adult emmetropic eye is 3-4 mm.[1] Moving from the front […]

Rebound Tonometry

Rebound tonometry is used to measure eye pressure (intraocular pressure) without anaesthesia or the use of a fluorescein with a hand held portable device. A head rest or slit lamp isn’t needed which can save time in appointments trying to get the correct head positioning.

This type of tonometry method measures the rebound movement of a small probe bouncing off […]

What is Tonometry?

Tonometry is an eye test that detects changes in eye pressure[1]. It is used to detect eye conditions such as glaucoma, which is damage to the optic nerve that can cause blindness in severe cases. Having diabetes can double your odds of getting glaucoma, so regular testing is essential in some cases. There are […]
